Zsolt Black

Zsolt Fekete painter was born in 1964 in Kiskunfélegyháza. He started drawing regularly in high school, when he had his first solo exhibition. After high school, Zsolt Fekete worked at various jobs, while also trying his hand at cartooning and caricature. In 1986, he was accepted to the Szeged Juhász Gyula Teacher Training College, majoring in drawing and geography. During his college years he got acquainted with the technique of painting, his teacher was István Dér. In the last years of college he started to work intensively with oil techniques.

His paintings are characterised by strong, bold, clear colours and a serene choice of subject matter. Most of his paintings are landscapes, but he also likes surrealistic depictions in the pictorial technique. He has a great respect for the values of the past and the built environment. It's good to spend time in his sunset-golden Mediterranean landscapes, to linger over his pictures of "peaceful" couples strolling through his romantic, fairytale towns. Along with an essential lightness, there is also a philosophical depth to his pictures, his tree of life twisting into the sky, almost bewitching, the tower soaring upwards with the birds flying around it, promising a distant view of the man who ascends.

He has participated in solo and group exhibitions in almost every major city in the country. Since 1997 he has been a freelance painter. In 2002 he was awarded the László Holló Prize.
Foreign exhibitions: 1992 Germany - Braunfels , 1996 Austria - Netherlands , 1998 Germany , 2000 France - Die , 2002 England - Wirkswroth , 2003 Denmark - Kjelerup
