Kálmán Gasztonyi was born in 1964 in Budapest. His first teacher was János Nagy, a painter. He has no professional qualifications, but he does not consider himself an autodidact. His second master, Tibor Wessely, taught him the professional and technical skills of oil painting at his free school, but his education as a civil engineer also enriched his knowledge.
He has been painting professionally since 1992. Since then he has had many group and solo exhibitions in Hungary and abroad. He has completed hundreds of individual and corporate commissions, not only for panels but also for murals.
He mainly painted murals, using the al secco technique, but also mosaics.
He is constantly participating in international, more prestigious competitions, usually winning prizes. In his own words, his primary concern is respect for oil painting and professionalism.
He formulated his ars poetics as follows. "The value of a work of art is in its uniqueness and in its technical perfection."
For her, one of the strongest sources of freedom is the ability to create with multiple painting techniques. His periods begin but never end.
Since 2009, he has been sharing his professional experience in the visual arts with those who seek him. He takes great pride in seeing his students become successful, confident and technically skilled artists.
