"Is there any feeling that stirs the human heart more fervently and more mysteriously than the excitement of celebration and expectation?"
In our latest blog post, we would like to share some facts, thoughts and experiences about Advent and the relationship between this anticipation and our gallery. The four weeks following the first Sunday of Advent are a time of waiting, a time of spiritual preparation for Christmas.
The period before the holiday is important for believers and non-believers alike. Most of us develop a mood of anticipation, preparation and childlike excitement that culminates in Christmas. In good times we all spend this day or days with our loved ones, and it is dominated by calm, serenity, peace and last but not least love.
Advent has also played a special role in the history of the Vándorfény Gallery over the past decade.
On the one hand, the institution of preparation is also present for us, as we decorate our exhibition hall and try to create an even more homely, loving atmosphere. From a professional point of view, we are busy preparing our spring catalogue, the new works of our artists and their beautiful frames.
On the other hand, we are dedicated to serving our customers to the full. During the year, there are still many nice stories about certain works, but in December, these events multiply.
It's not often that a colleague of ours would be delivering a beautiful 100×200 cm painting to the husband who is giving it to him, but the wife who is coming home at that moment forces him to pretend to be a window-opening agent. The improvisation was a success, and a month later the family was delighted when the cardboard packaging turned out to contain not an interior door but an incredible painting.
Also a lovely experience for another member of our staff was a delivery when a mother wanted to surprise her son and daughter-in-law with 6 artworks, but due to illness they were both bedridden on the 23rd, so there was a risk of the surprise slipping away. The cards were dealt. The lady watched the couple and, if necessary, kept them in the room while our colleague "sneaked" into the house and installed the paintings on the living room walls. The plan was a good one, but the guardians of the house, the so-called dogs, were not in on it... It was down to our colleague's presence of mind and excellent physical abilities that neither he nor the paintings were harmed. The job was done in the usual way, and to this day the story is still told when we meet our dear regular customer.
Of course, this year we are also a partner in all the solutions needed to get the right artwork on the right wall or shelf, as the joy of gift-giving is inevitable when we talk about Christmas.
Our 10-year-old downtown gallery (and our exhibitions in Budapest and the countryside) is visited by many people at Advent to surprise their loved ones, friends, colleagues and themselves with a precious, everlasting memory, for which contemporary art is the ideal choice. We would like to offer help, space and time for this with our Advent exhibitions throughout the country (XIV, XXI, XXII districts, Zalaegerszeg, Miskolc, Füzesabony, Baja) and with the permanent opening of our gallery from 3 to 23 December 2018, daily from 10 am to 7 pm.
We look forward to welcoming you!
