As we approach the end of the first month of 2018, we are already focused on the future, but we cannot look forward to February without taking stock of the past year.
We ended a fantastic season on the last day of the year. Alongside the hustle and bustle of our downtown gallery, our travelling exhibitions gave us the space and opportunity to meet. From Sopron to Gyula, we took art to many rural towns and cities, with 14 000 visitors to our 137 exhibitions. Most of them not only found what they were looking for at our exhibitions, but also took it home with them.
So it was for our art-loving audience in the run-up to Christmas. Around November and December, we were happy to see that the power of love can turn attention to art at any time. We are truly delighted that the paintings, prints and sculptures purchased in our gallery this holiday season have brought art into even more homes.
Fortunately, this is no longer a matter of occasion. More and more people understand that it is not only the holidays that can be an opportunity to live with art, but also everyday life, the ordinary moment when you catch a glimpse of a painting in our gallery or in one of our temporary exhibitions and you irrevocably feel that you need it. Not necessarily to pass it on, nor to show off, but for the very simple yet noble need to live with it, to make it an everyday ornament of your home or other important living space.
This unique moment helps us to recognise the feeling that pulsates inside us at that moment, as if we had found a treasure… And of course we also feel a sense of certainty: at that moment we know for sure that we are discovering a new piece of our collection. And a little bit about ourselves, because this kind of encounter with art always brings us one step closer to ourselves.
We at the Vándorfény Gallery are in the happy business of helping to create or simply witnessing many of these stories in 2017. We loved these moments. We look forward to seeing you again in 2018 in Budapest, in the city centre and at our exhibitions around the country.
